The effect of terrorists to the West is enormously magnified by our reaction to them. How many Western deaths have been caused through terrorism in the last 15 years. 5000? Probably less than 200 in the last 5 years.
How many soldiers have been killed in subsequent wars? Over 7000 (http://icasualties.org/).
How many civilians have been killed in these wars? 100s of thousands.
And how much are we spending on this? What is the 'opportunity cost' of that lost cash - which could have been spent on health care/research/education?
I think we need to learn to ignore the 'short game' of small terrorist outrages and instead concentrate on the 'long game', which the West is undoubtably winning.
Terrorists represent a tiny proportion of radicals, that bubble to the surface of large populations of unhappy, poor and repressed people. Those underlying populations are changing though... all across North Africa and the Arab world people are mobilising to gain democracy, spurred on by the slow liberalising Western influence of open communication technologies and culture. This 'long game' political change is MUCH more significant than OBL's death.
Take away the unhappy cultures that breed terrorists won't completely remove risk - but it will make terrorism more the action of criminals, and less of a 'clash of cultures'. Smart Western political leadership would sell terrorist outrages as 'random acts of criminal radicals' not 'we must go to war with the axis of evil'.
All Obama has to do is decide whether he can afford to stop propping up the US military industrial complex.

Even after that comparison of Apple's products to Windows', I'd still buy Apple.
Don't tell me that I'm wasting my money just because I can easily afford to purchase a Mac. Most of the people that talk crap about Macs are the ones that can't afford them, so of course they're going to talk bad about them.
I don't think anyone is stating that. I myself prefer buying an apple products when they fit my needs. I won't blindly buy one just because it has the apple logo though.
The sum of the parts, hardware+software usually make apple products a great solution.
Many people find windows based PCs to be an acceptable product and at a fraction of a cost, its a no brainer for many people.
I disagree with the luxury vs cheap car analogy. I built a core i7 that exceeds what apple provides and its much more "luxury" then a junker car. It looks great because the case I chose, it performs awesome and the cost was 1,500 less the comparable mac pro. I opted to turn the computer into a hackintosh because I do prefer OSX over windows.
BTW, to clarify my earlier remarks, I've purchased a mac mini, MacBook Pro and I've built out a core i7. I buy apple when it makes sense and build when I think thats a better option.

I have a college degree in Computer Science and own a Windows 7 PC and 2 Macs. I like both meat & veggies. Drive a crossover. Scooters are for idiots and I have NO desire to ever own a Harley. maybe a Honda motorcycle. :D

I don't buy it; Apple offers the Apple TV for $99 which provides AirPlay.
...and does a lot more than stream airplay. but not everybody is going to buy yet another set-top box. but everybody buys a tv sooner or later -- if apple can get $4+ per set sold, from all the major manus, why not? more TVs sell than ATVs...

Incidentally, I'm not savvy with reality TV (I prefer reality) or FaceSpace Books, I heard Zane Lowe play the song about a week ago and thought, what a classic, I haven't heard that for years and went out and downloaded it. I don't agree with the people saying it's not a good song, in 1992 Tom Morello's guitar playing was groundbreaking and the lyrics ideally suit this chart battle.
But to paraphrase another Rage song, you can't rebel by buying something.

Earth to MacRumors members... APPLE WILL LOSE TOO MOST LIKELY.
That's why I say Apple should just buy KODAK up and get all the royalties for all those patents that so many other companies are already paying or lost lawsuits regarding.

It seems one of the best features is the upgrade price for existing customers. Free. This makes all of the upgrades even better, since they are free. Apple has really eliminated the possibility for pundits to bash the new version, since it is free for existing users. It is an amazing upgrade.

I think you need to read that bit above again.
You don't need much gear at all to get started doing great photography - you just need to be good with people and have reasonable photo skills. If you are have that, then all you need is a reasonably sharp and long-ish lense and a window. See Lloyd Erlick (http://www.heylloyd.com/) for example. I don't think he is still active, but he was shooting 4x5 BW portraits by window light. I think some of his portraits are the best I have seen. I've learned from him to try and keep my portraits simple. I tell my students that doing portraiture is both the easiest and the most difficult kind of photography there is. Easy because you can make great portraits with window light, and one good lense on a camera. If you want to get fancy you can add a reflector :) . Difficult, because you need to work with people.
... I also don't care for sports in general, so that's not a likely path for me, either....

One of the best rock-n-roll photographers you will not have heard of in North America (if not the world), is Dee Lippingwell (http://www.deelippingwell.com/). She had a daytime job, but loved music. So she approached an entertainment weekly and offered to take photos, in order to get the press passes into the events. She then quit the daytime job to do the photography full time. Still loves the music and the music biz.
I've sat through a couple of seminars she has done (short on technical advice, but huge on rock-n-roll stories!
Don't let the website fool you. She doesn't actually need to advertize much. She was one of less than a dozen photographers that Mick Jagger personally invited to shoot the big SARS concert in Toronto a few years ago. I have the honour of calling her a friend, and in one of her band shots on the website you can see my former studio reflected in the subject's sunglasses.
She loves what she does, it shows, and her clients know that.
So keep banging away. It gets easier, then more difficult, then it plateaus into sort of easy again. Well, not really - but you love what you do so much you don't notice that it's difficult.

As for what I meant- I am trying to illustrate how silly and unrealistic and inherently flawed "anti-discrimination" laws are. Lets say I do not hire a guy because he is black. The problem with CR's iPhone 4 report was not that they didn't recommend the iPhone 4 when it originally came out on AT&T but that they then reiterated their "Not recommend" labeling for the Verizon iPhone 4 for having the same 'death grip' issue. They did this despite that the Verizon version had a different antenna design. Anandtech, who were amongst the first to quantify the 'death grip' issue for the AT&T version, showed that in fact the VZ iPhone 4 fared no worse than other smartphones. For the original iPhone 4, CR felt while it was great in many categories, it's antenna issue was too great a problem in their eyes. One could argue that they overstated the problem given that most users didn't seem to mind, but their position of "Not recommended" is not unjustifiable for the AT&T iPhone 4. However, CR clearly screwed up on the VZ iPhone 4.
