Commercial Times claims that Foxconn Electronics has received notebook orders from Apple and volume shipments of one new MacBook model by the end of the year.
Small error there. ;) Sounds interesting, certainly an unpredictable update cycle, although with apple it always is.

A slight warning about the caps replacement - Id recommend doing it carefully, you really dont want to ruin the board if you slip. Also check PDS slots still work post-op if/when you replace them :)
I agree, chrismacguy. I should have said that removing them isn't particularly easy. Nor hand soldering tanalum caps. Experience is very handy. Too much heat and you can lift tracks. Too little heat and you can rip tracks from the board. :eek:

I fly between Manchester and New Jersey (Newark) a Lot, like 7 or 8 times a year for personal reasons :)
Anyway, I fly a mixture of KLM / Northwest Airlines, Continental or British Airways, it would be pretty cool, though most of the time I use my ipod whilst sat in the lounge then when on board I watch their movies, they offer like 6 of them and some good comedy channels.
Then again if I loaded some movies onto my ipod I could probably watch them, its just deciding before you go what mood your in!

Really, if you don't know how to "jailbrake" at all then I recommend getting someone you to know to help you out maybe? Actually performing the jailbreak is the simple bit.
Using and managing Cydia, along with any tweaks, is the part that most non-jailbreakers get confused with.
I've jailbroken several people's iPhones, iPods, and iPads and even now I still get them asking about things.

It is what I've been saying here for the last year. MR readers are not the target audience for the iPad, and that is why they have been so consistently wrong on the iPad's prospects until market data proves them wrong. We are NOT normal -- we like to hang out on a tech rumor site :)

Where do you think the Thunderbolt port might even go in the Air? Will it replace one of the USB ports? Doesn't seem like there's really that much room... thoughts?
As mentioned, it'll take up a bit more space inside for the Thunderbolt controller but it'll simply replace the existing Mini DisplayPort so it becomes a 2-in-1 port on the outside.

If the US Government shuts down, it'll be the last time I ever vote for a Republican Congressional candidate. I've only ever voted for one, current Senator Richard Burr, but I won't do it again.
This mess is absolutely pathetic. IMO, the Republicans will shoot themselves in the foot if the government shuts down. They can kiss the White House in 2012 and 2016 good bye.

I definitely have to disagree with him. Typing on a touch screen just makes me angry, and that's my primary reason. I can be something like 300%+ more productive on a standard computer than a tablet, period.

Hmm. If this does in fact mean a fall iPhone 5 release instead of a June release, then I would think that has to put LTE back in play for the iPhone 5.

So in other words: It isn't banned.
No it's not banned. They are intentionally trying to make it more difficult for you to buy it. You have to do the footwork yourself to get it. It is unprecendented for a company to want to make their product more difficult to buy.
Seems fraud is the reason from what that rep said in the chat. Maybe we have started to solve the mystery to this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=613734). ;)
This has already hit Gizmodo. At the time of The Consumerist post, they were already trying to reach AT&T Public Relations. The fraudulent claim is to divert attention away from the original reason.
As for eBay iPhones, you can find any of these for any cell phone under contract on eBay. This, or fraudulent claims, wouldn't be a NYC specific problem.

They wouldn't lose ALL online sales, just the ones from certain zip codes where it believes fraud is high.
There are more iPhones, Macs, etc. sold here than anywhere in the world. There is a reason why Apple has so many stores here. iPhones are more prevalent here than anywhere.

Wow, all the critical reviews to pay or not to pay, pre installed or dl on the fly. As I see it, both have draw backs as mentioned, but my general pref, is that it should dl at least your surrounding area. So Garmin (39.99), Tom Tom (39.99), Navigon (44.99), Google (free), Motion X ($2.99) etc. for US major apps.
And yet not one sole mentions Map Quest 4 Mobile (free), dl on the fly and I have never had an outage issue.
I do prefer a stand alone gps though. Therefore I don't see spending more for a secondary gps/backup on my mobile.
And for what its worth, currently using a Garmin 265WT, with traffic. I do have some slant toward Garmin as I use a eTrex Vista. On the iPhone I have all the bold apps. I prefer the Map Quest of all the boldfaced ones.
Changing gears on subject, GPS IIF, SV-1 launched end of May 2010 and SV-2 soon, accuracy will only get better!

The thread here is funny. So many off topic rambles.
But... this seems like a great thing! Fast I/O between the iOS device and the Mac. It will make for amazingly fast throughput and it standardizes on one port. Yes, another change, but in the long run, it should be awesome. Let's hope this happens.

Every update I see people come on Apple Discussions claim that the update fried their computer. Nothing can be farther from the truth. Without certain precautions data corruption, directory issues, font issues, incompatible drivers, will make an update look bad on the surface.
